As an intern for WIC , part of my responsibility was to coordinate vendors and organize the set up process for our yearly World Breastfeeding Week Celebration. The celebration occurred at all of our Contra Costa County locations: Brentwood, Concord, Pittsburg and Richmond. Here I am with some other WIC gals, setting up for for the Pittsburg event which turned out to be a huge success!

World Breastfeeding Week is kick-started each year in Contra Costa County with an African American Community Baby Shower. This event is a great way to not only encourage breastfeeding but also to help bond out communities. Although I was an intern this year, and much more involved in the preliminary stages than in the past, this was my 3rd year volunteering!

One of the most time-consuming projects I completed at this rotation, was the creation of a WIC Breastfeeding Support Group class outline. I am happy to say, this support group has now been implemented in both English and Spanish at 2 of the 4 locations! Click the link below to check it out!Below the schedule I created for the Pittsburg office based on the number of Nutritionists that are available to work. This office can see anywhere up to 6,000 clients a month, so the key to success is maintaining a constant flow of client appointments so that wait times are not too long and everyone can be seen .

Being bilingual made it easy to help Contra Costa WIC translate some of their group class material into Individual Learning Modules. My favorite module is our "Intro to Solid Foods " class. Check out my translations below!
